GENERAL TECHNICAL GUIDELINES FOR USE OF AUROBIT PRODUCTS

Products are supplied ready to use. If the user believes that a product needs to be thinned in order to improve application, we recommend the use of our thinners. On request our products can be supplied coloured to enhance their visibility in applications on dark backgrounds.
Please note that elements or compounds based on lead, cadmium, selenium, mercury or uranium are never used in our products. These metals may be released due to various factors such as substrate composition, firing temperature, contamination of the firing environment or other factors that are unrelated to the use of our products. We believe that direct analysis of one of your finished products is the only reliable way of determining the release of the metals listed above.

Brush application

We recommend using brushes with soft bristles (such as sable and ermine), which must be cleaned afterwards using specific thinners, turpentine or similar products. Never use brushes that are used for applying colours or other products that may create problems of incompatibility. Before commencing the application, clean the pieces to be decorated thoroughly to eliminated traces of moisture and grease. To achieve a good finished result, the product must be applied in a uniform, thin layer. Dedicated thinners can be added to improve flow (no more than 10-15%). It is always advisable to use a precision balance to check the addition of thinners so as to achieve the same fluidity and colour tone after firing.

Spray gun application

As in brush application, before starting it is advisable to clean the pieces to be decorated thoroughly to eliminated traces of moisture and grease. In this case the minimum required thinning is 25%. Higher degrees of thinning may be used to obtain special colour effects, in which case it is advisable to record the percentages so that the required tone can be reproduced.

Direct screen printing application

In the case of paste products, great care should be taken when thinning because adding excessive quantities of medium (more than 10-15%) may alter the rheological characteristics of the paste, resulting in printing definition defects. If the user wishes to significantly reduce the intensity of the colours of lustres and needs to thin by more than 15%, we recommend using the neutral paste lustre LTS-4 to maintain sufficient viscosity for printing.

Decals

We recommend using decal products on an as-is basis, without adding any medium or thinner. Even small degrees of thinning may significantly alter the rheological characteristics required for printing on paper. To regenerate used or old product with excessively high viscosity, the medium DIM-733 may be added (using dilutions no greater than 3%).
